The Changeling #1
Walter de la Mare
Come in the dark did I--
The last stars in the sky,
Foretelling, 'Daybreak's nigh'.
Out of the brooding West,
Safe in my mother's reast
Love sheathed my wings in rest.
Twilight my home is, then,
In this strange world of men;
And I am happier when
The sun in flames and light
Sinks from my dazzled sight,
Leaving me sleep, and night.
So now: only with thee:
My homesick heart can be
Stilled in like mystery;
Long did life's day conceal
This tender dream and spell:
Now all is well.
