Fairy Tree
John C. Cyr

There once was a man in Kilkenny
A farmer he was and harvested plenty
In his fields of rye and barley wheat
There stood an ordinary blackthorn tree.

"Tis' a fairy tree," said he to me
"And no wise man dare disturb that tree
I gazed upon that plain ol' tree"
"Tis just an ordinary tree," said I to he.

He looked at me with a baleful eye
And shouted then that I did lie
So I took an axe to the tree
And there were not fairy in that tree.

Looking at the tree, where it lay
The farmer cried then, "You scared them away!"
