Herbal Salves (method #2)
This method uses essential oils instead of fresh/dried herbs, and the method is slightly different. First, here are three recipes for a salve base to which you will add your essential oils. Again, proportions are in parts, so if you use 1 ounce as 1 part, adjust other ingredients accordingly.
SALVE BASE #1
1 part oil (jojoba, sweet oil or other base oil)
5 parts beeswax
SALVE BASE #2
1 part oil (see above)
1 part bees wax
4 parts lanolin or lard
SALVE BASE #3
4 parts cocoa butter
1 part bees wax
1 part oil (see above)
Method:
To make a salve of any of these, melt over low heat, and stir until blended.
Then add any of the following essential oils or herbs to one of the above to create your salve:
* 1 part goldenseal oil
* 1 part calendula oil
* 1 part comfrey oil
* 1 drop essential oil of lavender
* 1/8 tsp. tea tree essential oil
* 800 IU vitamin E <- Vitamin E oil acts as a preservative to help keep your salve from going rancid. It is NOT an optional ingredient! just break open enough vitamin E oil capsules to meet the amount shown into the warmed base/salve.
Directions:
Use as the oil in any of the basic herbal salve recipes. These herbs are anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and promote quick healing when used on cuts, scrapes, infections, or just about anything.
