Candle Magic
Candle magic is actually a complex combination of many different factors, but I can give you the basics and if it interests you then you can look for books on the subject to expand.
okay, the first thing you have to know, and know fully, is: what do you want? and what are you willing to do alongside a spell to act in combination to get what you want? now I suggest that your desires be couched in ethical terms <AKA no negative magic to bring harm on another person or a love spell aimed at a specific person> and fairly well described. the equipment you need for candle magic:
- a taper candle of an appropriate color. <see chart below.>
- a holder for the candle to catch wax spills and prevent fires, as well as a place to put the candle where it will be undisturbed.
- fresh water, mixed with salt and consecrated. <instructions below.>
- the hour of sunrise on the correct day. <see chart below.>
- and of course, a device for light the candle. matches, lighters, I don’t care.
Now, looking at your wishes <which are written down and summarized into a final invoking , choose the color of the candle that is most appropriate.
White is the color of the moon and the lunar aspects of the goddess <if you practice a goddess centered religion.> it pertains to emotional well being and security, to the home environment and your family. it is a useful color for healing, and when in doubt, use white candles as your default.
Yellow is the color of the sun, which is all about growth, creative expression, and the manifestation of your true will <d.w.t.w.s.b.t.w.o.t.l.>.
Use this color for new beginnings, enterprises, and special wishes that may take a gradual period of steady growth.
Orange is the color for Mercury. interestingly orange and yellow can be used for the sun and for mercury, but it is important to know your intent. Mercury is for short range travel plans, communication, thinking, education, tests, job interviews <but not promotions or raises – that’s , brothers, and sisters.
Red is the color of Mars, which is about striving, ambition, dedication to achieve, aggression, and victory. when you feel you need help in achievement, use a red candle, for mars. when you are looking for the passionate love, again, look to Mars and red.
Green, and also pink, are the colors for Venus. use this for aid in the artistic, in entertaining, for attracting help and aid to you, and of course, in love, especially romantic love, where I recommend pink.
Blue is the color of Neptune. This is all about spirituality, sacrifice, self healing of behavioral problems, nurturing, fantasy, and dreams. it’s also for peace, tranquility, and inner sight and resourcefulness. Be careful though, as Neptune gets caught in fancy.
Purple is the color of Jupiter. use this one for expansion, long range travel, long distance communication, higher learning, and your job promotion or raise; also use for luck, as Jupiter is the great beneficent.
Electric blue, I mean really bright and vibrant blue, is the color for Uranus. This power is for breaking habits, making changes, and inviting innovation to come into your life.
Brown is the color of Saturn. Use this to help you attain self discipline and a conservative but steady outlook. it has its foundations in the most solid and earthy areas of growth. Expect the Saturn candle to bring you the slow and sure way to your goals, particularly in work, career, and important business relationships.
Black is the color of Pluto. This is the color of self revitalization, of regeneration, of tearing the walls down so that the highest of principles and be rebuilt in its place. Use it to negate harm and danger, to break down life threatening or self destructive habits, and to strengthen your resolve to follow your true will <d.w.t.w.s.b.t.w.o.t.l.>
Okay, you’ve got your intent, you’ve got your correctly colored candle. Now here’s the days of the week that correspond with that :
Monday for the Moon.
Tuesday for Mars.
Wednesday for Mercury.
Thursday for Jupiter.
Friday for Venus.
Saturday for Saturn.
and finally, Sunday for the sun.
You can use the color of the candle to manifest the action of your goal, and the day of the week to manifest the circumstances of said goal. Take note of the moon as well, waxing is good for bring new influences in, waning is good for breaking down old influences and expressing yourself to the world. The full moon, of course, rocks.
Now, the salt and water:
Take a vessel of clean water, and say a few words over it, naming it the manifestation of the element of water, which is cleansing, healing, purifying, shaping, and powerful. Next, take up the salt, and name it the manifestation of the element earth, which is strong and powerful as the planet is, the ability to sustain life. Pour the salt into the water, and you have your material for charging the candle. Dip your hands in and rub the salt and water over the wax body of the candle, to cleanse it and prepare it for magical work.
Now you can begin. in the area where you are going to leave the candle, take it, the container, and your fire and set them down. Pause to empty your mind of chatter and get yourself ready to perform magic. I gave an exercise here for visualization that I recommended for use in the shower; well surprise! It’s the same exercise you do to prepare yourself for magical work. The difference is that you don’t use the energy you gather to harden up your auric body, you use it to charge the candle with your intent. Take the candle in your hands, and start taking the energy in, but DON’T let it overflow! hold it in until you’re fit to burst. Then, direct it all through your hands and into the candle, just after saying aloud (or mentally, with force) your invocation and declaration of intent.
Place the candle in its container (make sure it fits nicely, or have a birthday or other candle handy to make a pool of wax to anchor it in.) Then light the candle, go have something to eat, and let it burn down.
That’s all! hope I didn’t bore you.
