Welsh Cakes
[This simple recipe for Welsh cakes was shared with us from our kindred, Byd Littledragon of DragonOak Coven, Mid Glamorgan, Wales. It has become a favorite recipe for cakes at Sabbat and Moon rites.]
- 3 cups flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- ½ cup milk
- ½ cup water
- currents
- ¾ cup or 1 ½ cubes margarine or butter
Rub flour with margarine (like you’re making biscuits). Add sugar. Add currents. Break egg into milk and water and mix it together, then add enough to make a dough. (You don’t add ALL of it, just enough till you get a thick dough).
Roll out on a floured board (flour it well!) and cut out with a small glass. Lightly grease a cast iron skillet or cooking stone.
Cook on top of stove, turning when brown/mildly burnt on bottom. Do not grease the skillet between cakes. The butter in the dough does that.
Enjoy!
